Artist's Background

George Jerkovich is a regionally known photographer that has exhibited at SNW for many years. His work is included in numerous public and personal collections. The majority of his work is of the local Kansas landscape. He delights in finding beauty in the ordinary lay of the land.

Born in Split, Croatia, George immigrated to the United States in the 1960s as child. He grew up in Lawrence, Kansas, as the son of a university professor and a homemaker. After graduating from the University of Kansas School of Medicine, George sold his microscope for his first camera in 1984. Shortly there after George moved to Salina, Kansas, where he has been practicing photography and design for 30 years. His works are a concentration of human interest and natural landscape pieces designed to evoke emotions of nostalgia and wonder.
